A girl was slaughtered to death by her lover in a cabin of a three-storied launch in the Buriganga river near Sadargaht on Wednesday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Parul Akter, 16, inhabitant of Aganagar, South Karaniganj in Dhaka district. Police also detained killer Al Mamun, 21, a third year student of Accounting Department of Government Kazi Nazrul College, police said.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Parvez Islam said that Mamun killed Parul in the cabin of Eggale-3 on Dhaka-Patuakhali river route around 5:00pm.
Mamun confessed in police custody that he had killed Parul with a sharp weapon over a dispute of love affair issue between them, the police official said.
The body has been sent to the Mitford Hospital for autopsy, the OC said. A case has been filed in this connection, he said. Apart from it, bodies of a boy and a girl were recovered from the River Buriganga near Keraniganj yesterday.
Police could not identify the deceased instantly.
