UNB, Chandpur :
A youth was killed and ten people were injured in a clash between two rival groups contending to hold the first Eid Jamaat (congregation) on Farajikandi Madrassa ground of Tofadarpara in Matlab Uttar upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased is identified as Rafiqul Islam, 27, son of Nannu Mollah of the same area.
Local people said since the death of Farajikandi Darber Sharif’s Boro Hujur (chief cleric) named Pir Manjur Ahmed Siddiqui a few years ago, two groups have been claiming to be his true followers.
One group is led by his son Maulana M Masud and another group is led by his younger brother M Mostaque.

The two groups locked horns in quarrel over holding the first jamaat this year.
As a sequel to the squabble, a violent clash between the two groups took place that led to serious injuries to Rafique and 10 more people.
Rafique was admitted to Chandpur General Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, Rafique was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
Police rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and quelled the situation.
