A young man was killed when a truck ran him over in the city’s Mirpur area on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Shamim Sheikh, 35, an employee of an optic shop in Mirpur-1. Son of Mohammad Ali of Bhanga upazila in Faridpur district, he had been residing in Kamrangirchar area of thecapital. Quoting witnesses, police said the truck knocked Shamim down while he was going to Mirpur-1 bus stand from Chashma Market (Optic Market) under Shah Ali Police Station, leaving him critically injured. Ali Haque, a motorcyclist, was also injured during the incident as the truck hit his motorbike. Later, the injured were rushed to Pangu Hospital from where Shamim was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated, said Provisional sub-inspector Shamim of Shah Ali police station, adding that he died at the DMCH around 8:30 pm.
