A Dhaka court yesterday convicted and sentenced a youth to imprisonment for life and also fined him Taka one lakh in a case lodged in connection with rape of a five-year-old girl in the capital’s Adabor area in 2020.
Judge Shamsunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict Md Sabuj, 22, and sent him to the prison with conviction warrant.
Sabuj raped the children on November 8, 2020, in her home when both her parents had gone to their works, leaving her to her maternal uncle, who also went outside for sometime. As the parents came back, the victim told them about the torture she had to endure. Victim’s mother later filed the case with Adabor Police Station of the city.
Police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on August 31, 2021, and the court on January 10, 2022, framed charges against accused Sabuj.
All the nine witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates and were later cross-examined by the defense.
