Police arrested a young man armed with a knife as he reportedly tried to enter the meeting venue of Chief Whip ASM Feroz at the Bauphal upazila parishad auditorium on Wednesday afternoon.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bauphal Police Station, a meeting of the upazila education committee attended by the chief whip was in progress at the auditorium when Abul Bashar Rony, son of Sekandar Ali of Nazirpur in the upazila, tried to enter it around 4pm. As Feroz’s gunman stopped him at the entrance, he engaged in a scuffle with the policeman, he said.
Later, the youth was overpowered and arrested, the OC said, adding that a knife was recovered from him. Immediately after the incident, the chief whip left the venue under the escort of police and the meeting was postponed.
