Police arrested a young man from Demra area of Dhaka on Thursday night on the charge of violating of a schoolgirl in Barolekha upazila of Moulvibazar and uploading the video of the act in internet.
The arrestee is identified as Khairul Islam, 23, son of Noor Uddin of Balishkona village in the upazila.
The 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from her village home on the night of May 2 when she went out of the house to respond to the call of nature.
After the abduction, the girl was confined to an unknown house for several hours and gang-raped by Khairul Islam and his gang Babel, son of late Amir Ali of Sridharpur village in the upazila. In the early hours of May 3, the rapists left the girl in front of her village home. Later, they spread the video of the rape on Internet. The girl filed a case with the Barolekha police in this connection. Barolekah police sub-inspector (SI) Tapos Chandra Roy, who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, confirmed the arrest of Khairul. He was produced before a court on Friday and was sent to jail rejecting his bail petition.
