A youth was hacked to death at Shirili Modonpur village under Monirampur upazila in Jashore district at around 10pm on Friday.
The dead was identified as Mokul Hossain, 32, worker of a welding workshop in Jashore town and son of Amin Morol of the village. He was also involved with drug peddling and facing 8 cases with Monirampur Police Station, police said.
‘He was killed for theft of two bicycles at his locality,’ locals said.
The police detained 5 suspects in connection with the killing, said Sub-inspector Zialul Haque of Monirampur police station.
Police and locals said the youth was hacked to death by a number of miscreants at Modonpur village and was kept at a lonely place. He was then declared dead by the attending doctor at Jashore General Hospital as soon as he was rushed there.
Police detained five youths after filing of a case by the father of the victim.
