UNB, Sherpur :
A court here on Sunday sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old girl at Nayabari village in Nakla upazila 10 years back.
The convict was identified as Alamin, 30, son of Kalimuddin of the village.
Md Akhtaruzzaman, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, also fined him Tk 10,000 and in default, he will have to serve three months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 18, 2010 when the victim was returning home from school. Alamin took her to a nearby jungle and raped her there before fleeing the spot.
Her father filed a case over the incident with Nakla Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
After examining the records and 18 witnesses, Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Nazrul Islam Khan handed down the verdict and acquitted two accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
