A young man was strangulated to death as he reportedly went to meet his ‘girlfriend’ at the latter’s house at Chamabhasha village in Gomostapur upazila early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 21, son of Lal Mohammad of Bosnitala village in the upazila and an Honours student of Adina College in Shibganj upazila.
Shahin Kamal, officer-in-charge of Gomostapur Police Station, said Masud had a ‘love affair’ with Jaitun Khatun, 16, a Class-X student of Bosnitala High School and daughter of Aminul Islam of Chamabhasha village.
Masud went to Jaitun’s house in the early hours to meet her, he said.
Jaitun’s family members informed Masud’s family around 3:30am that he fell sick. After going there, Masud’s family members found him dead.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Police suspect that Masud was strangulated to death.
