In recent years, Model United Nations Conference or simply known as MUN has become a buzzword in our country. But have you ever stopped to think about what this MUN actually is and what it aspires to do? Is it only about the socials and formal outfits? Or is there anything more to it than what meets the eyes? MUN is a full course event that teaches the participants not only debating and writing skills but also develops their critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities.
It is a simulation of United Nations Conference and this extra-curricular activity hopes to develop deeper understanding into current world issues. In the MUN community of Bangladesh, BUP Model United Nations Conference (BUPMUN) has become a benchmark event. Organized by BUP Global Affairs Council for the first time in 2016, it has upheld its legacy in its later sessions. BUPMUN is adorned by the MUN enthusiasts in both national and international arena for its praiseworthy academics and hospitality. This year, BUPMUN is back again for the third time and hopes to create a lasting impression in MUN community by breaking the boundaries of expectations.
The vision of BUPMUN is simulating the event; we encourage knowledge of international affairs, research, understanding of parliamentary procedures, analytical reasoning, problem solving, professionalism in negotiation, oral and written presentation of ideas, etc. By working together as a team, drawing from the past and present, the goal is to prepare the youth for the future and empower them to be a part of decision making at all levels. BUPMUN transcends from a mere simulation to an actual youth decision-making process.
It goes beyond a simple conference and ensures that the outcomes of our discussions and debates are presented, edited and transmitted in a clear and concise manner to the regional and international decision-making bodies (such the UN) and the world at large. Through this innovative approach, BUPMUN brings a new vision to the MUN Network and to the other conferences of this type.
The mission is to promote and encourage awareness, understanding, tolerance and acceptance of different people, cultures, beliefs and attitudes by organizing BUP Model United Nations conference. We believe that people’s involvement at all levels of decision making (national and global) is essential in order to achieve the goals of the United Nations through inclusive strategy to promote shared prosperity by strengthening security and ensuring world peace. Together we aim to build an international Youth Development Body where the voice of youth is heard worldwide and make BUPGAC a true global family.
hrough its signature event BUPMUN 2018, BUPGAC has brought forth the ultimate podium for every youth, national and international, to explore, examine, and share one’s perspective with the rest of the world. BUPMUN aims to inspire the new generation to learn and cooperate for a better world through declared values and ideals.
It will bring out one’s inner potential and encourage diplomacy in the best possible environment. Diplomacy is vital in today’s world. A better diplomatic relations will promote better solutions for the international issues and dilemmas in this era of globalization.
One cannot learn diplomacy in a library, stuck on the books. Diplomacy is an art of 360 degree where practice must implement the theory. Without any doubt, BUPMUN has served as a source of inspiration and action to youngsters to become leaders – the game changers.
It has set the stage where the youth will be emerging with new ideas and concepts through practical cases, understanding the causes of an issue and the possible solutions, in return becoming more intuitive and empirical. BUPMUN 2018 will engender the diplomats of the 21st century who are cosmopolitan and strong willed to bring forth the mind boggling ideologies in this new world that believes in equity.
While we know much more about the world today than ever before, parts of our world remain unexplored, and there are many global problems left to be solved – population growth, environmental degradation, refugee crisis, loss of bio-diversity, climate change, globalization, lack of sustainability, access to healthcare, poverty, hunger and the list goes on. Although we have made tremendous progress, we still have a long way to go to develop a comprehensive understanding of our world. To solve these we need the participation of everyone. We believe every global citizen deserves a voice in these important issues.
