A youth, suspected to be a thief, was killed in mob attack in the city’s Badda area early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, 25, son of Anwar, who hailed from Brahmanbaria district, police said.
Quoting the witnesses, Badda Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Rahmat Ali said that Rabiul went to the residence of Jahangir in Badda Alatunnesa School area at around 5:00am for personal reason.
The locals caught Rabiul suspecting him a thief and beat up him mercilessly with sticks and iron rods, leaving him critically injured.
The SI said that, police rescued him and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at around 8:00am when the on duty doctors declared him dead.
The body was sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy, the police official said.
