A youth was apprehended by locals for allegedly raping a four-year-old child in Dhaka’s Nawabganj upazila.
Nawabganj Police Station’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Sorhab Hasan Talukder said suspect Habibur Rahman, 19, was arrested in Bandura union around 10pm on Thursday.
He said Habibur raped the child when her mother left her alone at home and went to the market at around 7:30pm. When the mother returned home around 9pm, the victim told her of her ordeal.
Neighbours gathered hearing the mother’s screams and took the child to the Upazila Health Complex.
The locals then caught Habibur from a nearby place and beat him up before contacting police.
The suspect was arrested from the area and taken to the police station, ASI Sorhab said.
