A court in Chittagong sentenced life term rigorous imprisonment to an accused of a murder case in connection with killing his elder brother on Tuesday.
The accused who was awarded life term identified as Mohammad Motahar Hossain.
The court of the second additional district and session judge Mohammed Nazrul Islam sentenced the accused under section 302. The court also sentenced two years more imprisonment under section 304 to the accused.
Sources said, the convicted Mohammad Motahar Hossain attacked on his elder brother Mohammad Nurul Absar by a knife at Alipur village under Hathazari upazila in Chittagong on October 25 in 2011 over a dispute of fishing at pond. His elder brother Nurul Absar died on the spot.
The wife of the victim Salma Akhter and son Ahsan Habib Sohel were also injured severely at that time when they went to save the victim from the attack.
Salma Akhter, filed a case in this connection with Hathazari thana on that day. Police submitted the charge sheet against accused Mohammed Motahar Hossain on January 17 in 2012.
The court framed charge against the accused and heard the testimonies of 15 witnesses. However, after 16 years of the murder, the court announced the verdict of the case.
