At least five women have turned away from the traditional social system in Kishoreganj.
Some of them are working with golden fiber jute, some are working with the traditional nakshi and elokeshi pitha of the district and some are working with another product of the district, chappa shutki.
Tahmina Kabir, one of the entrepreneurs and head of the Doly’s, has been working with jute for three long years as an alternative to polythene to tackle the global climate problem.
When polythene bags are a cause of concern all over the world, this young woman is dreaming of building a polythene-free Bangladesh by working with the idea that jute will reduce environmental pollution.
Tahmina Kabir was born in Gachihata village of Katiadi upazila in Kishoreganj district. She is an honours final Year student in the Department of Resource Management and Entrepreneurs of the College of Home Economics in Dhaka.
She started the initiative with two thousand taka only. Her products include various shopping bags, ladies bags, purses, office bags, table mats, runners, ornament boxes, ornaments, corporate gift items, wall mats, logo frames and more.
Another woman entrepreneur is Afrin Rahman Tuli. She has been working with Nakshi and Elokeshi traditional products of the district for three months.
She wants to introduce Nakshi or Elokeshi Pitha of Kishoreganj as a ‘Nabanna’ trusted brand in Bangladesh.
Afrin Rahman Tuli is a resident in New town of Kishoreganj town. She is studying in Masters at Gurudayal Government College, Kishoreganj .
Rima Akhter is also a woman entrepreneur. In addition to her studies, she started Kushikata’s work in early 2016 with a training allowance of Tk. 700.
Since then, she has imparted free training to about 500 women in villages. In the last four years, besides working as a daughter of Katiadi, she has received a total of 34 trainings as a woman entrepreneur at home and abroad.
At present, not only rural women, but also many educated women in the city are dreaming of becoming entrepreneurs. In their interest, they have started a small training center ‘Rimi Fashion’. She won the National Award in 2019 at the upazila and district level in the ‘Economically Successful’ category.
Another female entrepreneur Razia Afsar Himu has joined the dream journey. She is studying in the Management Department of Kishoreganj Govt. Mohila College in the 1st year of Honours.
She is a resident of East Tarapasha in Kishoreganj town. She is working with chappa shutki, cheese in this region. She is working relentlessly to make the products of her district known all over the country with her talent and thinking besides her studies.
Women entrepreneur Farzana Akhter’s home is in Hossainpur, Kishoreganj. She is working with Nakshi Bangla handicrafts and agricultural products. The journey of her dream of becoming an entrepreneur started in 2009. She started her first work with adulterated agricultural products mushrooms.
The entrepreneur took the initiative with courage despite the obstacles at first. She is currently working with her handicraft dress saree, agricultural products mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, nuts, corn and dragons.
She is planning to set up a 10-acre agro-farm in the future. We want to deliver local products, adulterated food for poor people to all generations.
