Next nat'l election: Young voters can play vital role

Speakers at a seminar highlighted the significance of the young voters in the 11th National Election to be held on December 30.
“The 23.5 million new voters, registered since 2008, are expected to play a crucial role in the next election. Young voters, particularly the first-timers, are proactive and their preference can sway election results,” they said.
The speakers said it at a seminar titled “National Polls: Expectations of the Youth,” held in the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific, organised by Sampriti Bangladesh on Thursday.
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Director Sharita Millat said, “To maintain the development activities underway in Bangladesh, young people should understand for which political parties to vote.”
“They should have faith in those who believe in the spirit of our War for Independence of Bangladesh,” he said.
Dr Nujhat Chowdhury, central member of Sampriti Bangladesh, said, “The youths always play a vital role in a country’s election. In the upcoming parliamentary polls, the young voters will be a considerable factor in determining the winning party.”
“In the history of Bangladesh, the youths have always played an important
role in the country’s achievements-and will continue to do so in the future,” Imdadul Haque Milon, Editor of Kalerkhantho, said.
Film actor Ferdous said: “A large number of film actors, actresses, and media personalities have decided to carry campaign in this election.
“We are participating because we want to let the young generation know how important is their votes in the election.”
