Young Tigers thrash Scots to reach U-19 WC quarter

Sport Desk: Host Bangladesh have thrashed Scotland by 114 runs to reach the quarter-final of ICC U-19 World Cup 2016.

 

The young Tigers managed to score 256 runs losing 6 wickets in their stipulated 50 overs after they were asked to bat first at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox`s Bazar on Sunday.

 

In reply, Scotland were all out in 47.2 overs scoring 142 runs.

 

Tigers started their innings very slowly as Scotland pegged them back with some early wickets. But thanks to the unbeaten hundred from Nazmul Hossain that took the total to a tough one to chase down.

 

Nazmul Hossain made 113 runs off 117 balls with the help of 10 4’s. This century made him the most run getter in the youth one day internationals. He amassed 1,734 runs in the youth level.

 

Besides, Saif Hassan missed fifty (49) but played a good role to build the base of the innings. Colt captain Mehedi Miraj was very good with the bat too. He hit 51 off 49 ball.

In the end it was Saeed Sarkar who provided the late flourish playing a cameo of 16 runs from 6-ball help gather 256 runs in their 50-over.

 

On the other hand, Scotland started brightly with the ball, particularly Mohammad Ghaffar who picked up four wickets but after that they started losing control. Besides, RG Brown and MD Rao took one wicket each.

 

While chasing a big total of 256, Azeem Dar was the top scorer for Scotland. He hit 50-run. Besides, ND Flack, JS Waller and RA Johnston scored 28, 24 and 20 runs respectively.

 

Mohammad Saifuddin and Saleh Ahmed Shawon claimed 3 wickets each for 17 and 27 runs respectively while Ariful Islam got 2 more for 28.

 

Nazmul Hossain Shanto was named player of the match for his outstanding performance.

 

In other matches of the day, England beat Zimbabwe by 129 runs, West Indies crushed Fiji by 262 runs and Namibia stun defending champion South Africa with a 2-wicket win.
