UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team marched to the final of the ongoing tri-series in England beating the hosts by 72 runs on Thursday at Billericay. With this win, Bangladesh secured 9 points from six matches and became the first finalist.
England Under-19 won the toss and opted to field first. Bangladesh batted first and posted a moderate total of 224 all-out in 47.1 overs. While replying, England tumbled for 151 all-out in 39 overs.
While chasing the target of 225 runs, England lost five wickets just in 51 runs. After this batting collapse, they were never returned to the race.
For Bangladesh, right-handed pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib and left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan bagged three wickets each while Shahin Alam and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury took two apiece.
Earlier, England’s decision to bat first seemed to be a good one as they picked the first wicket of Bangladesh in just 18 runs.
But in the second wicket stand, Tanzid and Mahmudul Hasan Joy added 118 runs which set a good foundation for Bangladesh to post a big total.
However, the young Tigers failed to take advantage of a good start as the middle-order failed to deliver a firm batting show.
Joy fell for 41 and Towhid Hridoy added 31. But the other batsmen failed to show their prowess as Bangladesh tumbled for 224 all-out in 47.1 overs.
For England, right-arm pacer Nick Kimber took five wickets conceding 38 runs in nine overs while Blake Cullen and George Hill took one wicket each.
Bangladesh now won four of their six matches and they are currently at the top of the points table. Along with Bangladesh and England, India are playing in this 50-overs age-level event. The final of the event will take place on August 11 at Brighton.
