SM Mizanur Rahman :
Yet another 12-year old boy was brutally murdered by his former employer at Tutpara Central Road in Khulna city on Monday night, police and locals said.
The ill-fated boy was identified as Rakib, 12, son of Nurul Alam Haldar, was a former motor worker at ‘Sharif Motorcycle Garage’. Rakib’s father is a truck driver.
Hailing from a village of Satkhira district he used to reside with his parents at Central Road in Tutpara. Rakib left the job from Sharif Motorcycle Garage recently and joined another garage in the same area.
Local people caught garage’s owner Omar Sharif, his mother Beauty Begum and employee Mintu and beat them up mercilessly and handed them over to police when they tried to flee the scene after admitting Rakib to a hospital.
The critically injured Omar Sharif, his mother and employee Mintu are now under treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital Prison Cell.
According to locals and police, Omar Sharif and Mintu took Rakib forcibly to the garage while he was passing by the area on Monday afternoon and they pumped air using air compressor machine into his rectum.
The minor boy was later admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital in serious condition on Monday night.
It may be mentioned here that this air compressor machine is used to pump air into the tyres of motorcycle, truck, bus and other vehicles.
As Rakib’s condition deteriorated fast his family members were rushing him to capital Dhaka for better treatment but he met the tragic end of his life on the way.
Talking to The New Nation on Tuesday Nibash Chandra Mazi, Police Commissioner, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), termed killing as barbaric and said none of the criminals would be spared.
“Sharif and Mintu took Rakib forcibly to the garage and held hostage him there in the evening. Later, they pressed the nose of an air Compressor machine to the rectum of the boy and pumped air into his body,” the KMP commissioner said.
He added as Sharif and Mintu continued to pump air into Rakib rectum at one stage, Rakib’s belly was inflated with air and he started vomiting.
“Later, the two culprits took him (Rakib) to a nearby clinic at about 10:40pm on Monday and tried to manage a good escape from the hospital. But locals caught them red handed and gave them a good beating and handed them over to the local police station,” Nibash Chandra Mazi said.
He said the victim’s father Alam Haldar lodged a case on Tuesday with Sadar Police Station accusing Sharif, his wife and employee Mintu.
Meanwhile, local people on Tuesday staged demonstration and held protest rallies in Khulna city demanding exemplary punishment to those involved in the gruesome killing of Rakib.
They also formed a human chain protesting the killing of Rakib. Hundreds of people from all walks of life joined the human chain. Besides, different social and cultural organisations participated in the protest rally.
The government must ensure justice to stop such killing in future and to show love for our children and value the lives of the poor, who are also the citizens of the country and deserve equal rights from the state, speakers at the rally said.
Earlier, on July 8, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila of Sylhet was tortured to death over an alleged theft incident at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the district.
The killers themselves also took the video footage of the incident and uploaded it on the internet. The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry in the country.
