State Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yafes Osman said the journalist has to be enriched professionally in accordance with the development of information technology.
“There is no alterative of online information services, and development of online services including online journalism is needed to be expanded to build digital Bangladesh,” he said this on Saturday while inaugurating a workshop on online journalism at the seminar room of Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB).
PIB organised the three-day workshop for the first time for the online journalists. PIB director general Shah Alamgir presided over the inauguration ceremony.
Urging to expand the digital journalism in the country, Yafes Osman said a nation could move ahead quickly if it works saving time using information technology.
He said online journalism has been evolved in the country during the tenure of the present government and every sector is being moved fast towards building digital Bangladesh. Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan said print and electronic media is facing challenges due to the involvement of online journalism in the country.
He said importance of online journalism is being increased considering the demand from readers.
Dhaka Union of Journalists President Altaf Mahmud said the readers are getting any kind of news instantly for the quick presentation in online media.
A total of 30 journalists from online media are taking part in the workshop.
