Yaba trader gets 10-yr jail

As Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a Yaba trader to 10-year imprisonment in a case filed for selling contraband Yaba tablets. The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shah-e-Nur also fined him TK 10 thousand and in default to suffer two months more in imprisonment.
The convicted Yaba trader is Syed Kashem, son of late Kala Mia, hailed from Bhodarbill area under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. Court sources said a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on secret information arrested Kashem with 2000 pieces of Yaba tablets from the city on October 2 in 2014. Later, based on his information, the RAB team recovered one lakh 28 thousand pieces more yaba tablets from a house at city’s Hill View Residential area under Panchlaish thana and filed a case against him in this connection.
Police submitted charge-sheet against him on October 29 in 2014 while the court on Thursday examined a total of three prosecution witnesses out of six and passed the verdict, court sources said.
