Illegal drug peddlers are using helicopter for smuggling yaba, as that transport has not adequate scanning and surveillance facilities, home ministry said.
“We have got information that the smugglers are using helicopters to bring yaba to Dhaka from Cox’sbazar,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told journalists.The government agencies reported to the home ministry that the passengers from helicopters are enjoying facility of checking about their belongings during the tour.
The smugglers used it as a good chance to smuggle the illegal drug yaba.
After getting such information, home minister on Wednesday conducted a meeting with owners of the eight private managed helicopters, their representatives, Biman officials and law enforcers in the secretariat.
The home ministry asked for help from all in order to prevent yaba and other illegal drug smugglings through helicopters.
A committee has been formed in this regard to prepare a report on the issue.
Sources said, an Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has been made chief of the committee with instruction it to submit the report within a month.
A meeting of the core committee of the law and order affair on February 19 also asked to issue an alert about smuggling to yaba by helicopters.
