The lone X-ray machine of 50-bed Kaunia Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur district has been remain inoperative for over a decade causing acute sufferings to the poor patients of the upazila.
The health complex sources said many patients coming from different areas of the upazila are being deprived of getting X-ray test facility from the health complex. Many of them especially the poor patients cannot afford to do test from private diagnostic centers, the sources said.
The patients alleged that they have to return from the health complex without X-ray test despite doctor’s advice due to inactive machine.
Johora Begum (40), a poor woman at village Khansama under the upazila, said the doctor had advised her for doing X-ray test, but she could not do the test as the X-ray machine room of the health complex remained closed.
Ashraful (30), a day labourer of village Char Nazirdaho in the upazila, said he had to return from the health complex without X-ray test though the doctor advised him for doing the test.
Admitting the sufferings of the patients, Upazila Health Officer Doctor Shaheen Ara said as the X-ray machine of the health complex is not functioning, it is so difficult to give prescription to the patients without X-ray report. ‘We informed the authorities of the matter but the authorities are yet to take any measure in the regard’, she added.
