Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday received the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Award, which Bangladesh won at a summit in Geneva.
PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad handed over the award to the Prime Minister at the Cabinet Room of Sangsad Bhaban. The Project Director of A2I Programme received the award at the summit held in Geneva on May 25-26.
Receiving the award, Sheikh Hasina reiterated her pledge to build a digital Bangladesh through spreading science and technology-based education.
Extending her thanks to those working relentlessly to implement Digital Bangladesh vision, the Prime Minister dedicated the award to the country’s people.
Bangladesh was given the award in ‘Access to Information and Knowledge’ category in recognition of the Prime Minister’s achievement in the field of ICT sector.
The award was given for much-talked about ‘Tatha Batayan’ (National Web Portal) of Bangladesh which has been developed and being operated under the Access to Information (A2I) project of the Prime Minister Office.
The web portal is connected with as many as 25,000 offices, while around 50,000 officers have been trained for its operation. The web portal has over 20 lakh contents, 45,000 historic documents and information about 7 lakh government officials. In 2014, A2I programme also received WSIS Award for Union Digital Centres.
