RAB has nabbed a wrong man at the Chittagong airport mistaking him to be a ‘death-row convict’, police have found.
Anwarul Ashraf Chowdhury was released from Fatikchharhi Police Station on Monday after the mistake was confirmed, OC Mafiz Uddin told the media.
He said RAB-7 had arrested Chowdhury on Sunday morning and handed him over to police, identifying him as Ashraf Hossain Babu, a murder convict.
“RAB said he had identified himself as Anwarul Ashraf Chowdhury but they arrested him imagining him to be Ashraf Hossain, alias, Babu,” he said.
“Our investigation showed that the Ashraf RAB arrested and the convict Ashraf are not same person,” he said.
The names and the addresses of the two persons did not match, he added.
Golden Life Insurance official Noor Khaleq Hossain Master had been knifed to death in Fatikchharhi on Apr 2, 2004.
