Writ seeks stay on DNCC, DSCC polls

Staff Reporter: A writ petition has been filed with the Supreme Court urging stay order to on Dhaka north and south city corporations’ polls scheduled for January 30 as it coincides with Saraswati Puja.
Advocate Ashoke Kumar Ghosh, a Supreme Court Lawyer on Thursday filed the petition with the apex court requesting the Election Commission (EC) to reschedule of the polls.
He filed the petition challenging the High Court’s January 14 order which rejected his writ petition filed over the issue.
“Voters from Hindu community will go to offer their prayer on the day. If the DCC elections is held on that day, vehicular movement will remain halted for which the worshipers cannot go for offering prayer which may hamper the puja celebration,” the petitioner said.
