A writ petition was filed on Wednesday with the High Court seeking its order asking the government to suspend MBBS admission process for academic session 2020-2021, claiming presence of major inconsistencies in the merit list.
Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallob, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted the petition on behalf of 324 candidates who had been disqualified as per the “faulty merit list”.
In the petition the petitioner has requested the HC to direct the authorities concerned of the government to cancel “faulty merit list” and to publish a fresh one by reevaluating the MBBS admission test results.
In the petition, it has been said that the authorities have not followed the provisions of the MBBS test rules for deducting 7.5 number from the total number scored by a candidate who has already got himself admitted as MBBS student, and the provisions for deducting 5 number from total number scored by a candidate who passed the HSC examination last year.
Again, number was deducted from the total score of the many candidates who appeared in the test for the first time has no chance in rules, read the petition.
Health secretary, education secretary, directorate general and director of the directorate general of medical education (DGME) and directorate general of directorate general of health services (DGHS) have been made respondents in the writ petition.
The Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) on April 4 published the results of MBBS admission test for academic session 2020-21.
A total of 48,975 students passed against 12,690 seats in 47 public and 70 private medical colleges across the country for the academic year 2020-21.
There are 4,350 seats in public medical colleges and 8,340 in private medical colleges. On April 2, a total of 1,16,792 aspirants appeared in the admission test of the MBBS course for the academic session. The student who stood first in the exam scored 87.25 in the tests.
