Staff Reporter :
Jatiya Party candidate for Dhaka-8 Constituency Advocate Eunus Ali Akond on Tuesday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directive upon the Election Commission (EC) to cancel the result of the constituency citing irregularities.
In the petition, Eunus Ali prayed to the High Court to order the EC not to include the name of Rashed Khan Menon in the in the gazette notification.
Menon, a candidate from Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance, has been elected in the December 30 general election.
Eunus Ali Akond told the reporters that the agents of the other candidates were not allowed in the polling centres during the election.
The presence of voters was also very low, but it was said in the election result sheet that huge turnout took place on the day, he said.
“Rashed Khan Menon is the President of Bangladesh Workers Party and his party’s election symbol is sickle. But he contested in the election with AL’s election symbol boat which is contradictory to the Representation of People Order (RPO),” Eunus Ali further said.
The High Court may hear the petition today (Wednesday), he added.
