World’s most expensive mango ‘Sundim’ is being grown in Rangpur. This mango is called ‘Miyazaki’ or ‘Red Mango’ or ‘Egg of the Sun’. This most expensive mango is seen planted in the roof garden of an amateur gardener in Rangpur namely Mohiuddin Alamgir Tota Mia.
Tota Mia is the manager of a private firm in Rangpur, a resident of Bakultala, Ward 22 of Rangpur City Corporation. He has cultivated Suryadim mango in a tub on the roof of his two-storey house. The tree has produced six red mangoes this year.
Tota Mia said each mango weighs at least 600 grams and the price of mango is per kg about 2 lakh 60 thousand. He brought sapling of this mango variety from abroad two years ago through a friend. This year 6 mangoes have been grown. Miyazaki is Japanese mango. It is known as ‘Red Mango’ in the world market. This mango of Suryadim Mango or Miyazaki variety is 15 times more delicious and sweet than all other mangoes in the world. Not only in taste, but also in price. The average weight of mango is about 600 grams. It is sold at around 90 rupees per 10 grams. In other words, the price of a mango is about 6 thousand rupees.
Obaidur Rahman Mandal, Deputy Director of the Rangpur Agricultural Extension Department, said that just as Haribhanga mango, the yield of Red Mango will spread one day from Rangpur.
