The World Youth Skills Day (WYSD)-2022 will be observed today in the country as elsewhere across the globe.
The aim of the day is to advocate for skills to highlight the crucial role of skilled youth in addressing today’s most challenging global issues.
In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as the World Youth Skills Day to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
Since then, World Youth Skills Day events have provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between young people, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, firms, employers’ and workers’ organizations, policymakers and development partners. President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day, reports BSS.
The President, in his message, said: “I welcome the initiative of the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA) to celebrate the day in Bangladesh like in other countries of the world.” He hoped that the observance of this day will play a helpful role in
encouraging the working population to increase their skills through training to survive in a competitive and challenging labour market.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the icon of the youths.
Bangabandhu had realized that the youth is the life force of the nation and the main regulator of development and progress, the Premier added.
Not only that, they (youth) are bold, energetic, promising, ambitious and creative, she said.
Following the footsteps of Father of Nation, the government have adopted and implemented various programmes across the country during the period of 1996-2001 to involve the youths in the mainstream of development, she added.
Since the formation of the government in 2009, various technical, vocational and agricultural multi-faceted training including information technology have been provided to turn the youth into skilled manpower, she continued.
The present Awami League (AL) led government is working tirelessly to make Bangladesh as a developed country by 2041, she said, adding that to achieve this goal, it is necessary to accelerate national economic development by ensuring optimal utilization of existing manpower.
In order to ensure the employment of more skilled workers in the changing
international market, creating skilled manpower is important, she continued.
Considering the importance of the matter, the Awami League government has
established the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA), the Premier
said.
Sheikh Hasina hoped that World Youth Skills Day will play an important role
in making youth aware of skills development.
Both the President and the Premier wished overall success of all programmes
taken on the occasion of WYSD.
