With the slogan ‘save rivers to save Bangladesh’ World Water Day-2017 was observed in a befitting manner in Chapainawabganj on Wednesday.
Chapainawabganj district administration arranged a colourful procession and a discussion meeting in association with the Chapainawabganj district office of the Water Development Board (WDB) and Development Association for Self-reliance, Communication and Health (DASCOH) on the occasion.
The procession was taken out from the deputy commissioner’s office and after parading the main roads of town it ended at the same venue.
Later a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner with the deputy director (Local Government) Md. Abu Jafar in the chair.
It was addressed among others, by the Deputy Commissioner Md Mahmudul Hasan as chief guest, executive engineer of WDB Engineer Syed Shahidul Alam, executive engineer of Local Government Engineer Department (LGED) Engineer Siddiqur Rahman Bhuyan, executive engineer of Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) Engineer Harun Or Rashid, executive engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) Engineer Bahar Uddin Mridha, executive engineer of Chapainawabganj municipality Engineer Sadequl Islam and regional coordinator of DASCOH Khairul Islam. A multimedia presentation on uses of water, importance of waste water, purification of waste water, justified use of water, coordinated water management and sustainable development was also given.
The speakers said, water is the most important factor for human life and so it is the duty of all to protect water from pollution. Wastage of water must be checked to save the future generation from the severe water crisis, they added.
Rampal-Mongla Correspondent adds: World Water Day was observed in Rampal recently . Rampal Upazilla Administration chalked out an elaborate program to celebrate the Day . For this , Upazilla administration brought out a rally from Upazilla Premises at 11a.m. and it paraded the main area of Rampal. After that a discussion meeting was held at Upazilla Prishasd Auditoriam. UNO of Rampal Upazilla Tushar Kumar Paul presided over the meeting. Upazilla Chairman Sk. Md. Abu Said was present there as chief guest and Upazilla Mohila Vice Chairman as special guest. Upazilla Live Stock Officer Md. Jahidur Rahman , Agriculture Officer Sankar Kumar Sikder , Rajnagar UP Chairman Sardar Abdul Hannan Dablue delivered an important speech mentioning the importance of the day. The meeting came to an end at 2 p.m.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Ensuring proper use and management of water have become imperative to save its misuse side by side with preventing water contamination and pollution to save environment, ecology and bio-diversity.
The opinion came at a post-rally discussion organised by the district administration at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in observance of the ‘World Water Day- 2017’ with the theme of ‘Water and Wastewater’ on Wednesday afternoon.

Later, a huge rally, participated by the officials, executives and employees of different government and non-government organisations, students, teachers, youths, social activists, professionals and elite, was brought out in the city streets.
Superintending Engineer for Rangpur Circle of Water Development Board (WDB) Harun Ar Rashid attended the post-rally discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman in the chair.
Acting President of district Awami league Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Priyosindhu Talukder and District Fisheries Officer Dr Zillur Rahman addressed as special guests.
Executive Engineer of WDB Mahbubur Rahman delivered keynote presentation narrating the present surface and underground water situations, its scarcity and prevailing problems at the local, regional, national and global levels with suggestions for way-out.
The speakers stressed on strengthening capacity and governance at the national, regional and international levels, technology transfer, mobilising more financial resources and scaling up good practices and lessons learned to cope with the water scarcity.
Dr Zillur Rahman laid importance on strengthening of the equity-based international cooperation on water and its proper management in the greater interests of all nations and people amid formidable threat of the changing climate.
The chief guest called for ensuring best use and proper management of surface water and its preservation through creating public awareness to prevent water pollution for survival of the human being as well as saving environment, ecology and bio-diversity.
The Deputy Commissioner called for ensuring optimum use of safe and pure water, hygienic sanitation and engaging comprehensive regional efforts for equity-based water- sharing of all international rivers among the nations concerned.
