Aiming to boost contribution to the country’s national economy, the government is formulating a “practical” and “application” based Tourism Master Plan (TMP) to explore all the untapped potentiality, which is the also a motto of World Tourism Day.
Talking to The New Nation, Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir today said it would be an investment friendly TMP where the investor would feel comfort and secured for their investment.
“The TMP wouldn’t be a theoretical plan rather an application-based plan supported by proper data and analysis,” he revealed.
The BTB CEO said they would provide the investors absolute support so they could reap the return of their investment timely.
In the line with the motto of World Tourism Organization (WTO), Bangladesh along with other countries across the globe will observe today World Tourism Day with the theme “Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility”.
WTO has chosen to celebrate World Tourism Day-2016 on the theme of accessible tourism so people with disabilities, senior citizens and families travelling with small children, and sooner or later all citizens will appreciate the advantages of universal accessibility.
Echoing the WTO motto, the BTB CEO Akhtaruz Zaman Khan Kabir also said Bangladesh has also taken initiative for inclusive tourism to ensure sustainable development of the sector.
Alongside the country’s youth, he said, they want to tap the youth girls and female with the tourism sector and secure a comfortable atmosphere for them so they don’t feel uneasiness during touring. “Without tapping youth and female who are representing the majority of the population, sustainable tourism sector is impossible.”
According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), in 2015, direct contribution of travel and tourism sector to national economy was Taka 402 billion which is 2.4 percent of GDP and it is expecting to stand at 5.2 percent in 2016. Beside, total contribution of the sector was Taka 809 billion which is 4.7 percent of GDP and expecting to rise to 6.1 percent in 2016.
To mark the day, government and private organizations have chalked-out three-day long varieties of events across the country.
