Chairperson of National Advisory Council on Neurodevelopment Disorder and Autism Saima Wazed Hossain on Wednesday said the world would follow Bangladesh as the country is tremendously working on the issues of persons with disabilities and autism.
“The inclusion of issue of person with disabilities and autism in election manifesto of Awami League is a very significant matter. Though many countries do not put emphasise on it, it is an important matter for the mankind. We have already made a way to bring the differently abled people to the mainstream of the society. We are working with the challenged people and their families….And the efforts will be continued in future, said Saima, also the daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Saima Wazed, also chairman of Shuchona Foundation, and WHO’s Goodwill Ambassador for Autism in South-East Asia region, was addressing a special discussion for the youths on the election manifesto of Bangladesh Awami League.
Centre for Research and Information (CRI) and social platform #IamBangladesh organised the event at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium here.
A good number of young people across country participated in the event and exchanged their views with renowned academics, economist, politicians and intellectuals.
Atiur Rahman, former Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, academic and writer; Atiqul Islam, former president of BGMEA; State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, and cricketer Mehedi Hasan Miraz were panelist discussants at the programme.
Saima also emphasised on youth engagement in the country’s political and social issues for the well-being of the country as the young generation are the future of the nation.
“Our youth should clear their stand regarding politics and social issues. It is very easy to raise allegations. But they should involve in the issues which are significant for the country. They have to eye social media to know about the difference between reality and rumours,” said Saima. Saima also said the Awami League (AL) government would provide extensive psychological support and counseling to the youth for their mental well-being.
While talking about the development of education, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Zafar Iqbal said AL has given maximum importance on education in their manifesto.
“Our students especially our girls are doing great. Earlier, we suffered from fund crunch for PhD students at our university, but now we are getting sufficient facilities,” said Zafar.
State Minister for Information Tarana Halim said the incumbent government is giving all out supports to female entrepreneurs.
