World Prematurity Day 2017 was observed in Rangpur district with an intensive and vivid programme from union to divisional level on Friday.
Civil Surgeon of Rangpur district organized the event with the support of LAMB and Plan International Bangladesh under its Born On Time project funded by Global Affairs Canada and Johnson & Johnson.
The day was started with colorful rally. Government officials, journalists, non-government organizations (NGOs) representatives, community people and health workers carried out the rally from the Sadar Hospital premises at 10:00am in the morning.
A discussion sessionwas held at civil surgeon office auditorium just after the rally where speakers put emphasis on preventing premature birth and what is our role to prevent it. They also pointed out4 critical factors; Lifestyle, Infection, Nutrition and Contraception ( LINC) and the strengthen the services of Union Health and Family Welfare Centre to prevent prematurity birth.
Dr. Md. Mozammel Hossain, Divisional Director – Health, Rangpur was present as Chief Guest while Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam, Civil Surgeon, Rangpur chaired the discussion session. Dr. S. M. Saidul Islam, Deputy Director, Family Planning, Rangpur,Dr. Md.Abdul Mokaddem, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Rangpur, Dr. Dr.Hrishikesh Sarker, Programme Manager, Plan International Bangladesh Rangpur Divisional Office were present as Special Guests.
