World Population Day observed

The World Population Day was observed across the country as elsewhere in the world with a fresh call to stop early marriage aiming to contain population growth on Friday.
To observe the day, different government and non-government organisations arranged various programmes, including seminar and rally with participation of all levels of people.
This year’s World Population Day is “Investing in young people”.
Directorate General of Family Planning organised a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on the occasion of the World Population Day.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque, Director General of Health Services Prof Dr Deen Md Nurul Haque and Director General of Family Planning Md Nur Hossain Talukder, among others, addressed the discussion with Health and Family Welfare Secretary M M Neazuddin in the chair.
Nasim urged people of all strata to raise their voices to stop early marriage to build a healthy nation by controlling population growth.
“Child marriage has turned into a social disease. We all have to work together to prevent the social disease,” he added.
Earlier, a rally was brought out in front of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and it ended at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
