World Philosophy Day observed at DU

With the goal to obtain regional contributions to global debates on contemporary challenges that support social transformations, the Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Thursday observed ‘World Philosophy Day’ in a befitting manner.
In 2005 the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed PDF document that World Philosophy Day would be celebrated every third Thursday of November. Marking the day, DU Philosophy Department, Govinda Chandra Dev Centre for Philosophical Studies, Center for Moral Development and DU Philosophy Alumni Association jointly organised several programmes which includes holding seminar, debate on philosophy and discussion and publishing souvenir. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Arts Faculty Dean Professor Delowar Hossain, Dr M Matiur Rahman, among others, addressed a discussion held at Teacher-Student Center auditorium with DU Philosophy Department Chairperson Professor Sajahan Miya in the chair. While addressing, VC calls upon the students to be liberal, non-communal and worthy citizen by learning Philosophy.
“Philosophy teaches us to become truthful and to build up a society free from prejudices,” said the DU VC.
