World Mental Health Day today

The ‘World Mental Health Day’ will be observed in the county as elsewhere of the globe today in a befitting manner aims at raising awareness of mental health issue. This year’s theme of the day is, ‘Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World’ to highlight the mental health of youths who are facing various challenges nowadays.
Different social and psychiatrists’ organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion wishing success of the day. The president has urged all concerned to play a responsible role of ensuring mental health services for the people at grassroots level. In a message on the eve of the World Mental Health Day-2018, he said, mentally sick people are part of the society and it is the responsibility of all to stand beside them.
The Prime Minster in her message said the present government is implementing various programmes including setting up National Institute of Mental Health at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital city Dhaka in 2001. Since the establishment of the institute the hospital has been trying to deliver modern services to the mentally ill people and conducting researches in the field of mental health.
“We have introduced mental health services through primary health care system. It is possible to cure mental sickness to a large extent if the causes are identified and treated timely,” she added. The president and the prime minister termed this year’s theme of World Mental Health Day as time-befitting.
They wished success of all programmes of the day.
