World logs 6,609 COVID deaths in 24hrs

In the last 24 hours, 290,225 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 6,609 died from the pandemic. The United States has registered the highest number of deaths from the pandemic and infections during the period.

Earlier on Monday, 311,706 COVID-19 patients were detected while 6,169 deaths related to the disease were reported worldwide.

As of Tuesday morning (02-03-2021), a total of 114,994,666 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 2,550,287 while 90,711,173 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.

The US, the worst-hit country in the world, has registered 1,439 deaths and 53,147 new cases in the last 24 hours. The country is still at the top in coronavirus deaths and infections. A total of 527,226 people died in the country due to the pandemic and 29,314,254 have been infected so far.

Brazil has registered the second-highest death toll of 818 during the time. With this, the tally of fatalities from the pandemic has risen to 255,836 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 10,589,608 as 38,349 new cases were confirmed during the period.

Mexico has seen the third-highest death toll of 458 in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 185,715. The total number of cases has exceeded 2,086,938 with 2,810 new infections.

In Russia, 333 more people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 86,455. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 4,257,650 as 11,571 new cases were confirmed during the period.

Italy has reported 13,114 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall caseload to 2,938,371. The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 97,945 with 246 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 219 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
