World leaders have begun congratulating US President-elect Donald Trump on his historic win highlighting their strong ties with the United States of America.
They are sending congratulations and messages to Donald Trump after news of his winning the presidency broke on Wednesday.
The world leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Prime Minister Theresa May German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italy’s Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi in their separate messages congratulated the US President-elect Donald Trump.
Of them, Russian President Vladimir Putin became first world leader to congratulate new US President Donald Trump, according to agencies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US Presidential election in a telegram, the Kremlin said.
“Putin expressed hope for joint work to improve the Russian-American relations from their state of crisis, and also to address pressing international issues and search for effective responses to challenge concerning
global security,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
Putin also said he was sure of a constructive dialogue between Moscow and Washington that would serve the interests of both countries, the Kremlin said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Donald Trump on winning the US presidency, state TV reported on Wednesday, telling him that the two biggest economies in the world shared responsibility for promoting global development and prosperity.
“I place great importance on the China-US relationship, and look forward to working with you to uphold the principles of non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation,” Xi told Trump by phone.
The stable and healthy long-term development of Sino-US relations was in the fundamental interest of the Chinese and American people, he said.
Trump, a real estate developer and reality TV host, stunned the world on Tuesday by defeating heavily favoured rival Hillary Clinton, sending stocks and the U.S. dollar tumbling.
On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to take on China and tax Chinese imports to stop currency devaluation.
British Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Trump and said Britain and the US would remain “strong and close partners on trade, security and defence”.
Ms May had criticised Trump’s call for a ban on Muslims from entering the United States, saying it was divisive, unhealthy and wrong.
But since Britain’s surprise vote to leave the European Union in June prompted her appointment as leader, Ms May has been careful not to pass comment on the former reality TV host.
Also in Britain, controversial former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage congratulated Trump.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on being elected US President, saying he looks forward to working with him closely to take India-US ties to a new height.
Modi said in a tweet the country looks forward to working closely with Trump to strengthen bilateral ties.
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif congratulated President-elect of USA Donald Trump on his victory and said on Wednesday.
Trump’s election is a triumph of the American people and their enduring faith in the ideals of democracy, freedom, human rights, and free enterprise.
“It is my great privilege and pleasure to congratulate you on your historic victory in the 2016 presidential elections. On behalf of Pakistan, I wish to extend to you and the people of US, our most sincere felicitations to you as the 45th president of the US” he said.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said.
“I express my heartfelt congratulations on your election as the next president of the United States,” Abe said in a statement.
“The stability of the Asia-Pacific region, which is the driving force of the global economy, brings peace and prosperity to the United States,” Abe said.
He also called for Tokyo to pay more to support the two countries’ security alliance.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has congratulated Donald Trump on his win in the US presidential election, before underlining the importance of their countries’ relationship and reminding the president-elect of their shared values.
“Whoever the American people elect their president in free and fair elections, that has a significance far beyond the USA,” the chancellor said in Berlin on Wednesday.
French President Francois Hollande said.
“I congratulate you for your grand victory.
“This American election opens a period of uncertainty.”
Prime Minister of Australia Turnbull said, America has “no stronger ally” than Australia.
“Australians have been confronted by the intensity of the political battle in the US,” he said.
Top officials at the European Union have invited Donald Trump to Europe for an urgent US-EU summit
In a joint letter, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, congratulated Trump and urged him to come to Europe for talks “at your earliest convenience”.
Tusk and Juncker are seeking reassurance on key issues on which Trump’s The EU’s Foreign Affairs chief, Federica Mogherini, gave a diplomatic reaction to Trump’s victory, tweeting: “EU-US ties are deeper than any change in politics.”
Italy’s Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, who was a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton even before she secured the Democratic nomination, offered his congratulations to Trump “in the name of Italy” and said he was convinced that the friendship between Italy and the US was strong and solid.
“It’s a new political fact that along with other things demonstrates that we are in a new stage,” Renzi said. “Who would say that Trump would win? It is that way and we respect it, we will cooperate with the new American president and have a relationship between the EU and Italy.”
Pope Francis did not mention the US elections, but secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, offered Trump congratulations in a statement to Vatican Radio that “his government can be truly fruitful”.
Spain Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, congratulated the new president on his victory and vowed to work with him to strengthen Spain’s relationship with an “indispensable ally”.
Spain’s foreign ministry said it was confident that the new era of bilateral relations would serve to “reinforce and consolidate” Spain’s partnership with the US and “deepen the friendship between our countries and peoples”.
The NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, said he was looking forward to working with Trump and that US leadership was vital to the world’s biggest military alliance.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte sent his regards in an official statement. “President Rodrigo Roa Duterte wishes to extend his warm congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory as President of the United States of America,” Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement. Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has congratulated Donald Trump, saying Cairo wants to see more “cooperation and coordination” between the two nations to bolster stability and peace in the Middle East.
According to a statement by his office on Wednesday, President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi telephoned Trump to offer his congratulations and invited him to visit Egypt.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has termed Trumps win as an “extraordinary victory,” saying his success showed that politicians should never take voters for granted.
Najib Razak is a possible beneficiary of what could be an inward-looking US under a Trump presidency.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the US election results would have no effect on Tehran’s policies, noting that Iran’s expanding economic ties with the world were irreversible. “The results of the US election have no effect on the policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Rouhani said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed confidence that he and Donald Trump could work together to bring US-Israeli relations to “new heights”.
In a statement congratulating the Republican candidate, Netanyahu said: “President-elect Trump is a true friend of the State of Israel, and I look forward to working with him to advance security, stability and peace in our region.”
