Sumaiya Dewan from Bangladesh finished eighth in the heat of the women’s 100 metre sprint of the World Junior Athletics Championship in Kenya on Wednesday. A total of 36 athletes took part in the race. Sumaiya became last in this event, according to the electronic timing. Sumaiya’s timing was 12.91 seconds. She competed in the race which timing was decided by electronic timer. She took part in this type of race for the first time. It was her best timing in her career.
It may be mentioned that athlete Jahir Raihan from Bangladesh moved into the semi-final of the 400 metre sprint of the World Youth Athletics Championship in Nairobi in 2018. Jahir showed a gimmick performance in that event.
