World Games open in Birmingham, USA after one-year delay

The 11th World Games opened in Birmingham, the United States on Thursdays after a one-year delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 3,600 athletes from over 100 countries and regions are set to compete in 223 medal events of 34 sports from July 7-17, including air sports, waterski and wakeboard, Wushu, flying disc, flag football and more. Organized by the International World Games Association (IWGA) and supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the World Games is an 11-day international multi-sport event held the year following the Summer Olympic Games since the first edition in Santa Clara, USA in 1981.
