The Department of Environment (DoE), Chittagong Division here yesterday observed the World Environment Day with various programmes including a discussion meeting. As a part of the observance of the day, Mokbul Hossain, Director of DoE Chittagong, led a rally that was brought out from the city’s DC Hill at 8 this morning and paraded through the main streets.
A large number of people from all walks of life including students, activists of NGOs, environmentalists and representatives of several professional bodies participated in the rally.
An essay competition was held at the Hall-24 convention center where a large number of students took part.
After holding the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the city’s Hall-24 convention center. DoE director Mokbul Hossain presided over the meeting while Ruhul Amin, Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong attended the meeting as the chief guest and Mezbah Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong, Mahbubul Alam, President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Azadur Rahman Mollic, director DOE, among others , addressed the function as special guests.
Later, the chief guest distributed prizes among the winners and distributed several types of fruits and medicinal saplings among the students and representatives of several organizations.
