World Environment Day-2015 was observed in Chapainawabganj on Friday.
Chapainawabganj district administration arranged a colourful rally on the occasion.
Before this, Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir inaugurated the day’s programmes by planting a tree beside the Martyred Freedom Fighters’ monument in front of his office in the morning.
After parading the main roads of the town, it ended at Nawabganj Horimohon Government High School premises where a discussion meeting was held.
The DC in the meeting said, trees are the factories of oxyzen but some unscrupulous people have been destroying those factories by felling them indiscriminately.
“We must remember that we will not survive if trees can not survive,” he added.
He also stressed on planting at least a tree on every homestead to keep a healthy environment.
It was also attended by deputy director (Local Government) of the deputy commissioner’s office Jahangir Alam, additional deputy commissioner (General) Maksuda Begum Siddiqua and upazila nirbahi officer of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila Mirza Shakila Dil Hasin.
Later a drawing competition of children was held at Green View School in the town and prizes were distributed among the winners.
BAU Correspondent reports: The Department of Environmental Science of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Friday observed the World Environmental Day with much enthusiasm on the campus.
On Friday, at around 11:00am the teachers and students of the department of environmental science brought out a colorful procession on the campus to aware the people with the participation of the teachers and students of several departments. Among others, students affairs advisor Prof Dr Jasim Uddhin Khan, Proctor Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain, was present in the procession.
