UNB, Dhaka :
The World Environment Day, 2015 was observed in the country as elsewhere around the world with a view to creating awareness about using the natural resources efficiently. The theme for this year’s WED is “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet.
Consume with Care”.
World Environment Day (WED) is observed every year on 5th June throughout the world with different themes. Observed across the globe to create awareness about the importance of protecting planet Earth and mother nature. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) calls on nations, encouraging them to do something positive for the environment on World Environment Day.
Various programmes, including colourful procession, rally, painting
exhibition, essay writing competition among juveniles and children and open discussion, have been taken across the country in observance of the day.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the World Environment Day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon all to be more careful to protect the environment.
In a message United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said “The goal of sustainable development is to increase the quality of life for all people without increasing environmental degradation, and without compromising the resource needs of future generations. We can do this by shifting our consumption patterns that uses less energy, water and other resources, and by wasting less food.” “In this year of transformation, when we hope to see great advances on sustainable development and climate change, let us observe World Environment Day by becoming more conscious of our ecological impact. Let us think about the environmental consequences of the choices we make. Let us become better stewards of our planet,” he said.
