70pc women suffering from breast cancer die sans treatment

Every year 22,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Bangladesh. Among them, 70 percent of the women die without any medical treatment. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. This information was shared in an event organized by Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month held on Tuesday at Uttara of the capital.
Quoting NICRH it said, the average age of patients who are suffering from breast cancer is reported 41 years. 89 percent of all breast cancer patients are married. Former Minister and Local Parliament Member Advocate Sahara Khatun MP was the chief guest at the program while Bangla film heroine Sujata Azim was the special guest. President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Kazi Rafiqul Alam presided over the program.
Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Director of Medical Services and Head of Radiation Oncology of Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital (AMCGH) delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
AMCGH’s Oncology Consultant Sura Zukurup Mumtahane and Pain and Pallitive Care Head of Clinical Oncology and Senior Consultant Professor Dr. AMM Shariful Alam discussed on the awareness of breast cancer.
Sahara Khatun MP, the chief guest of program, said that women suffering from breast cancer still do not consult with doctor due to shame. If awareness can be created about this, then breast cancer will reduce significantly in the country.
Among others, DAM general secretary Dr SM Khalilur Rahman spoke on the occasion.
