In observance of the WORLD BOOK DAY 2014, British Council and Daffodil Education Network (DEN) jointly launched a nation- wide “Book Reading Competition” with the theme “Own a book, Read a book” aimed at creating new readers and popularizing reading habits among students and mass people. 1300 competitors registered for this programme throughout the country under four categories.
 The Prize Giving Ceremony was held on Tuesday at British Council Library at 5, Fuller Road in the city.
Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Chairman of Biswa Shahitya Kendra and N I Khan, Secretary, Ministry of Education were the Guests of Honour for the celebration and handed over the gifts among the winners.
 While Brendan McSherry, Country Director, Robin Davies, Director Programmes and Partnerships, British Council Bangladesh and Md Sabur Khan, CIP, Chairman of Daffodil Group welcomed the guests as the organiser of the event.
Sarwat Reza, Resource Centre Manager conducted the program.
51 winners were chosen through a short test held in last June. Participants need not to refund the book after reading. All the participants had certificate of attendance and the top winner from four groups received a laptop each and certificate.
