World Bank Senior Vice President and Chief Economist Kaushik Basu arrives in Dhaka today (Saturday) at the invitation of the Bangladesh Bank to give a public lecture hosted by the Bangladesh Bank and join an International Workshop on Macro Economic Stability, Private Sector Development and Economic Growth. The Bangladesh Bank organized the workshop jointly with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).
This will be Basu’s first visit to Bangladesh in his current role as the World Bank Chief Economist. During his visit, Basu will meet senior government officials, private sector leaders and civil society representatives.
Bangladesh is the largest recipient of support from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s fund for the poorest countries.
