The World Accreditation Day-2019 will be observed in the country like elsewhere in the world today.
This year, the theme of the day is “‘Accreditation: Adding Value to Supply Chains”. Marking the day, Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) organises a discussion at the Industries Ministry conference room in the city, said a press release.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will be present at the discussion as the chief guest while State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Osama Taseer will be present as special guests. Industries Secretary M Abdul Halim will preside over the meeting. Bangladesh Television will air special programmes and mobile phone operators will send messages through the short message system (SMS) to mark the day.
BAB is the national authority with the responsibility of the accreditation in Bangladesh.
It offers accreditation programs for various types of conformity assessment bodies, such as laboratories, certification bodies, inspection bodies, training institutions or persons in accordance with the relevant International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro technical Commission (IEC), and other regulatory standards and national standards.
The organization has already given accreditation certificates to 71 institutions including Bangladesh Standards Testing Institution (BSTI), Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, 62 local and multinational testing and calibration government laboratories, including Department of Drug Administration Laboratory.
