A day-long dissemination workshop on “Managed Aquifer Recharge for Community Water Supply in Coastal Areas: From Action Research to Sustainable Upscaling” was held on Monday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of Dhaka University (DU).
The workshop was jointly organized By Dhaka University Geology Department, Acacia Water of the Netherlands, UNICEF and the Department of Public Health Engineering, Government of Bangladesh.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated it as chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain presided over function.
Among others Michiel Slotema, Policy Advisor Water of Netherlands Embassy, Dhaka, Hrachya Sargsyan of UNICEF, Bangladesh, Engr Khaleda Ahsan, Chief Engineer of Public Health Engineering, Government of Bangladesh and Prof Dr Kazi Matin Ahmed of DU Geology Department were addressed.
Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech said Dhaka University stands for mitigating sufferings of common people of Bangladesh. Scientists and Researchers of Dhaka University are involved with many research activities on different areas relating to problems of common people. He thanked UNICEF and Govt of Netherlands for conducting research jointly with Dhaka University on pure water supply in coastal areas.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain thanked the organizers and participants of the workshop and said objectives of the research project and workshop would help supply pure drinking water to coastal people of Bangladesh.
