Under the Accelerated Genetic Gains in Rice Alliance (AGGRi) project implemented by RDRS Bangladesh in collaboration with International Rice Research Institute (IRI), a rice seed systems workshop was held at the office hall of Taraganj Upazila Upazila Agriculture Officer in Rangpur District on Tuesday.
Seed Certification Agency, Rangpur District Seed Certification Officer Md. Khorshed Alam graced the occasion as the chief guest and Additional Deputy Director (Horticulture) of Rangpur District Md. Shamimur Rahman was present as the special guest. The program was presided over by Urmi Tabassum, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Department of Agricultural Extension, Taraganj Upazila. In his welcome address, Anup Kumar Ghosh, Agriculture Officer on behalf of RDRS Bangladesh, gave a basic idea about seed value chain and seed systems.In his speech, the chief guest discussed about seed production, disease tolerant and high yielding varieties cultivation methods and various modern methods and steps of marketing and advised dealers to sell seeds of new varieties.
A total of 30 people including seed dealers / retailers, agricultural entrepreneurs, members of the executive committee of the federation, contract farmers and officials of ADRS Bangladesh participated in the workshop.
