Media can play an effective role in resolving disputes or establishing peace. Journalists can create an atmosphere of understanding by changing attitudes by providing accurate information. By avoiding inconsistencies, rumors, untrue information and providing accurate information, the journalist acts as a mediator in establishing peace in the society and the state.
These were the words of the speakers at a training workshop on “Mediation for Journalists” held at a hotel in Rangpur on Saturday organised by People’s Mediation Center in collaboration with Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS).
The principal trainer of the workshop was Justice Mohammad Imam Ali. Trainers from India, Thailand, and Bangladesh conducted the training online.
BIMS Chairman SN Gewaswamy, BIM Bangladesh Regional Director Advocate Rafiq Hasnain, PMC Deputy Director Dr. Prasannajit Sarkar, and Mahamudul Haque, a teacher in the journalism department at Begum Rokeya University, spoke at the workshop.
Mizan Ahmed, staff reporter at SATV, was awarded the “Mediation in Bangladesh Journalism” award for his contribution to mediation journalism. Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Editor-in-Chief of ‘TV Today’ presented the award as the chief guest at Hotel Purbani in Dhaka. Twenty journalists from print and electronic media participated in the training workshop.
